With the sale of Telstra pending in return for a slush fund for National party seats in the bush, there is little hope that the broadband black holes created by Telstra in suburban Canberra will be fixed.
Telstra’s poor quality network continues to block broadband in many areas, and if Transact is not there, residents have no affordable broadband options at all.
Home-based business owners and students are examples of people that need broadband and too many still miss out. It is not just the bush that has appalling data services.
This is unacceptable in the 21st century!
But you won’t see Gary Humphries (ACT Liberal Senator) cross the floor on behalf of Gungahlin and Dunlop residents.
And you won’t see Gary Nairn (Liberal Member for Eden Monaro) cross the floor to fight for Jerrabomberra residents, let alone everyone else in his electorate.
It is disgraceful that the Liberal and National Party are prepared to sell of Telstra, removing the last possibility of improving services and keeping pressure on the company to be accountable to customers in Australia.
Labor will continue to oppose the full sale of Telstra.
