The carnage in the Israel-Lebanon conflict must stop.
Labor believes there needs to be an immediate ceasefire to this conflict.
The ceasefire needs to involve three key elements:
Hezbollah ceasing its rocket attacks against Israel, the return of captured Israeli soldiers, and Israel ceasing hostilities against Southern Lebanon.
Labor welcomes the release on Sunday of a draft Security Council Resolution on this matter and believes that this draft resolution is a small step in the right direction towards a long-term resolution of this crisis.
Australia also needs to be doing more to assist the humanitarian effort, for example assisting Lebanese civilians who have got stuck in the middle of this terrible war.
The Howard Government has removed many Australians from Southern Lebanon but there are many more that still need assistance.
