Building workers and their union, the CFMEU, rallied at lunchtime outside the Thiess building site in West Civic in protest of poor OH&S and the unfair dismissal of a first aid officer.
A series of injuries on-site and an incident that could have seen a worker killed have rightly prompted wider inquiries into the company’s attitude to health and safety.
A number of speakers, including myself, pointed to the Howard Government’s so-called “work choices” legislation as enabling the employers to shirk their obligations and responsibilities in OH&S.
Labor believes every worker has the right to return home safely after work each day and Labor will rip up “work choices”.
