Radio Kate: Workplace Laws Key NSW Election Topic

Transcript

At a “politics in the pub” function organised by State Labor Candidate for Bega, Wilma Chinnock, in Moruya, the focus was on how Peter Debnam will spread the Howard Government’s extreme Work Choices laws in NSW.

We now know that it is people working in the retail and hospitality sector that are losing the most conditions.

These sectors have a large casual workforce with many women and young people.

Under Howard’s extreme IR laws, there is also a growing gap between men’s and women’s pay.

Average weekly earnings figures show a 1.7 per cent increase in the gender pay gap over the last two years.

Wilma Chinnock has been very vocal making the point the NSW Liberals have committed to hand over industrial relations to the Howard Government.

That means the only protection from Howard’s extreme laws is to re-elect a State Labor Government.

    Hi, Kate

I have a site at which I post some political analysis on current affairs. (mostly because of the loathsome cover and analysis by commercial “tabloid” tv)

I’ve posted about about this issue. Two such posts are at:

    http://truepolitik.blogspot.com/search/label/WorkChoices

    home page is:

Posts tend to concentrate on Federal politics, but NSW politics gets a few runs.

I hope you’ll enjoy reading it on occasion.

    “John”
