Joint Media ReleaseLabor Senator’s Trish Crossin, Convenor of the Parliament House Childcare Reference Group and ACT Senator Kate Lundy, today warmly welcomed the passage of the works approval for a 22 place childcare centre in Parliament House for children 6 weeks to 18 months old.
“As one of the most significant work places in the country, the childcare centre finally acknowledges the needs of families, particularly women, in achieving a balanced working life” Senator Crossin said.
“I have campaigned since being elected in 1996 for childcare in Parliament House to serve the needs of employees with very young children. So I am thrilled we will see it finally happen.” Senator Lundy said.
“We look forward to the next challenge, which is the development of a childcare facility for children up to age 5.” Said Senators Lundy and Crossin.
“We both acknowledge the commitment by former politicians, press gallery, Parliament House employees and particularly colleagues for their efforts to the campaign to get childcare in Parliament House.”
