Senator Kate Lundy has welcomed the release of the Australian Government’s Aviation Green Paper by the Hon Anthony Albanese MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
The Green Paper is a step on the way in the development of Australia’s first ever comprehensive National Aviation Policy Statement or White Paper. It follows on from an Issues Paper last April.
“I am pleased the Green Paper proposes measures to achieve a better balance between the operations of airports and the impacts of airport operations and development on neighbouring communities”, Senator Lundy said.
‘This will require the proper integration of airport planning with land use and infrastructure planning around airports. Other proposals in the Green Paper include measures to manage the impacts of airport noise, reduce carbon emissions, improve aviation security, address skills shortages, support regional and general aviation, open up international markets, and better protect consumers”, Senator Lundy concluded
Senator Lundy encouraged all ACT residents with an interest in the future of Australian aviation to consider the initiatives proposed in the Green Paper and provide a submission to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government by 27 February 2009.
