Labor Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy today congratulated the owners of buildings in Canberra which will receive $1,871,329 from the Rudd Government to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of their office buildings.
The funding has been awarded as part of the Government’s Green Building Fund.
The $90 million fund aims to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of commercial office buildings by reducing their energy consumption through retrofitting projects. Grants range from $50,000 to $500,000.
The following local buildings have been successful in obtaining funding:
- $158,000: 10a Brindabella Circuit, Canberra Airport
- $500,000: 51 Allara Street, Abacus Funds Management Ltd
- $234,428: 1-5 Constitution Avenue, Allara House
- $500,000: Building 4, 153 Emu Bank Drive Belconnen, Hawkesbury Nominees Pty Ltd
- $251,717: 1-5 Constitution Avenue, Customs House
- $227,194: 1-5 Constitution Avenue, Nara Centre
“This is great news for the community and of course the environment,” Senator Lundy said.
“This funding will allow the owners of these buildings to take measures to reduce their energy consumption by assisting to fund the cost of a retrofit.
“These projects will support jobs now, in undertaking the retrofit, and once completed provide savings for the buildings through increased energy efficiency.
“Applications for future rounds of the program are still open and I would strongly encourage the owners of local commercial office buildings to apply.”
The first two rounds of the Green Building Fund supported 89 projects totalling $29.5 million.
Total annual savings in greenhouse gas emissions across Australia will be almost 65,000 tonnes of CO2.
