The ACT will receive $88,000 additional funding for 8 projects as part of the National Emergency Volunteer Support Fund (NEVSF).
The NEVSF provides practical support for volunteers by building and improving our national preparedness to manage emergencies. The Fund has been successful in building and training volunteers to be ready to respond to a range of possible emergencies.
“Emergency Service volunteers play a vital role in our community and each of the projects funded aim to boost the recruitment, retention and training of their volunteer organisations to ensure this remarkable work continues,” Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy said.
The additional funding will go towards the following ACT projects:
- $10,500 – St John Ambulance Australia (ACT) Incorporated – Bicycle and Emergency Response Team to recruit and train new bicycle first responders.
- $7,750 – The Salvation Army Australia – Emergency Services Canberra to purchase training resources and develop training programs for volunteers within the organisation.
- $20,000 – Southcare Helicopter Fund Pty Limited to conduct a volunteer recruitment drive and develop and distribute a community awareness brochure.
- $15,000 – Australian Red Cross – Emergency Services to provide leadership training for all Red Cross Emergency Services Volunteer Team Leaders.
- $6,000 – ACT Emergency Services Agency – Guises Creek Bridge to design and acquire resources for promotional recruitment activities and specialised training programs.
- $10,000 – Volunteering ACT Incorporated to train current volunteers on wireless internet facilities for spontaneous volunteer registration.
- $14,400 – ACT Emergency Services Agency to pilot and assist in delivery of an ESA multi service Volunteer Leaders Program.
- $5,000 – ACT State Emergency Service Belconnen Volunteers Association incorporated to develop a strategy for retention of volunteers at Belconnen SES.
