Improving citizen engagement with video

Today Senator Lundy is launching the first of her ‘monthly wrap’ vodcasts. Senator Lundy recently blogged on her website about the value of vodcasting, and how it is helping her keep constituents informed on important issues.

The monthly wrap vodcasts will include a snapshot of Senator Lundy’s recent activities and campaigns.  It relates to local ACT issues, ICT policy and practice, upcoming events including parliamentary activity such as Senate committees, legislation and reports. There will also be vodcasts on topical issues from time to time. Comments and reply videos are always encouraged!

“One of the concerns often expressed when considering video amongst a range of Web 2.0 strategies is the perceived complexities of recording, posting and assessing the effectiveness of vodcasts.” Senator Lundy said. “However, a report prepared for me by Dr Silvia Pfeiffer from VQuence has confirmed the increased interest in my web site as a result of posting vodcasts.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Pfeiffer for helping me set up a sustainable and successful vodcasting strategy”

Senator Lundy is leading by example and sees video as a core part of communications and integral to a strong Government 2.0 strategy. Her recent Government 2.0 Public Sphere conference was broadcast online live, and all talks were made available in the following week for reference.

“Although there were 170 people in person attending the event, there were over 400 watching the video stream, and 1500 watching the ‘Live Wall’ set up for the event, which included the Twitter discussion, Flickr feed and Live-Blogging on the day. Given the fact that Australia is so large, these ‘virtual’ participants will play an increasingly important part in future events and government consultation, so we need to do what we can to create a rich virtual presence, which of course includes video” Senator Lundy concluded.
