$1.8 million Woden Youth Plaza creates construction jobs

Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy has welcomed the announcement by ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope that construction work has commenced for the $1.8 million state-of-the-art youth plaza in the Woden Valley, which is expected to employ 58 construction workers.

The federal Labor Government provided $1.4 million for the Eddison Park youth plaza, with the remaining $400,000 funded by the ACT Government.

“Not only will young Canberrans and local families benefit from this great multipurpose venue, but it will be another boost to our local construction industry as part of the Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan,” Senator Lundy said.

The plaza concept was developed in consultation with the local community to ensure the Woden youth plaza caters for young people of all ages and interests and their families.

The plaza, which features a skate park, events stage, play equipment and a half basketball court is set to be completed later this year.
