The Rudd and Stanhope Labor Governments will provide more than $1.2 million for cycleways in Canberra.
Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy today welcomed the news announced by Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport and Simon Corbell, ACT Acting Minister for Territory and Municipal Services.
The Rudd Labor Government will provide more than $545,000, while the ACT Government will contribute $660,000 for bike paths around Lake Ginninderra, Cotter Road, Bowen Place, Chifley and Pearce.
The projects would construct an on-road cycle lane on Ginninderra Drive between Coulter Drive and Diddams Close. The on-road cycle lane will provide a more direct route for people wishing to travel to work in the Belconnen Town Centre.
“This project will support five jobs locally and is part of the Rudd Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan,” Senator Lundy said.
“Also, by building better cycling infrastructure, the Government is helping take cars off our local roads and reducing carbon emissions over the longer term.”
