    Hi Kate,

Pity I can’t make it down there. Hope all goes well. Am replying on this one as your entry to CEBIT points directly at their site, so comments are impossible.

I like this one. “Research communities are well versed in collaboration, and now it is important for the wider community to get used to it as well”. This (for me) has always been a matter of getting people like you (and pia) used to the IP (only) tools available, so the costs can drop fast.

What you were doing at PS3 was quite fabulous, just you dodn’t have the tools. The standard versioning three of them audio conf, web conf, and (very fat) vido conf, which will stream and record automatically (as one combination of ‘products’) is sitting inside the aarnet network and viewable here. http://www.arcs.org.au/products-services/collaboration-services
Here’s what they look like in situ. http://it-multimedia.web.cern.ch/it-multimedia/collaborative/

The geeks on the pipes need an imaginative ‘customer’ to define what they need, and you’ve always be ‘it’ (for me). If PS3 is the start, then by hacking at these tools, your going to define something that this hackfest could use right now, & aph committees will take for granted in a few years.
    All the best/
