Senator for the ACT, Kate Lundy, an occasional dragon boater and Patron for Dragons Abreast ACT, the National Capital Authority Chief Executive Gary Rake, and a handful of unwitting NCA employees will be racing as part of the 2010 Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Challenge hosted by the Dragon Boat Association and the National Multicultural Festival this Sunday.
After a couple of productive (and not to mention much needed!) training sessions under the guidance of Team Coach Fred Lehmann, the Burley Gryphons are high-spirited.
The 20 paddlers of the Burley Gryphon team are also raising money for Dragons Abreast ACT: the team hopes to raise more than $1500.
Mr Rake said the Chinese New Year Dragon Boat Challenge is a fantastic event for Canberra.
“While I don’t expect we’ll set any race records, the NCA team is really enjoying the experience while helping raise a bit of money for a very worthy cause along the way.”
Senator Lundy said “the money raised will be going toward a worthy cause in Dragons Abreast, an organisation which promotes breast cancer awareness and education through dragon boat racing.”
A presentation to Dragons Abreast will be made at 1pm.
