The Liberal Opposition has announced they will axe building the NBN if they are elected.
“This demonstrates the Liberal party thinking is back in the dark ages as they disregard the economic opportunities for Australia and the social opportunity to close the digital divide,” Senator Lundy said.
Previously Senator Humphries has called on the Government to ensure full coverage of the NBN in the ACT. But once again he has been caught out playing both sides of the fence and is now happy to ignore the plight of many ACT residents (September 4 2009).
“There has been a call from the community for the NBN to fix the problems people in the ACT, currently have with old copper infrastructure, particularly in the Gungahlin area which is growing at a rapid rate” Senator Lundy said.
Kate Lundy and Russ Gillon from ACT Broadband discuss the problems created by the existing copper network in Gungahlin on a recent video blog: http://www.katelundy.com.au/2010/04/23/the-history-and-issues-around-broadband-in-the-gungahlin-area/
“We are the largest growing area in the ACT. If our telecommunications system isn’t working now, then as that growth continues over time then we are not going to have a sustainable network to cater for all these new people. So we need that addressed, and the only viable alternative to Telstra at the moment is the NBN,” Russ Gillion said.
“Tony Abbott and the Liberals are also threatening the 25,000 jobs that will be supported every year of the NBN rollout.”
