The Rudd Labor Government is delivering $297,250 in North Canberra to four local organisations: Belconnen Community Service, UnitingCare Kippax, Sing Australia and Companion House.
Belconnen Community Service ($66,625) assists parents and children in the West Belconnen area to participate in supported playgroups in their local neighbourhood, including an Indigenous playgroup. It provides parents with play ideas that promote healthy development and facilitates links to culture, information and resources that promote positive parenting.
UnitingCare Kippax’s Families First project ($56,375) focuses on disadvantaged and low-income families in the Belconnen area, particularly families living in isolation and with special needs. It helps develop informal networks and raises awareness of domestic violence and child abuse.
Companion House ($71,750) supports four refugee communities in the ACT and Goulburn region and assists them in managing their transition to Australian society. It also enhances parenting and relationship skills and trains community leaders and mentors.
Sing Australia ($102,500) connects people through singing workshops. This project will maintain ongoing contact with new and existing singing groups especially in drought affected areas throughout Australia.
All four local organisations were amongst 220 community projects across Australia to share in $19.6 million.
The funding will help these important local organisations deliver quality services over the next 12 months.
