There’s nothing like Australia ACT photo contest finalist

Senator for the ACT Kate Lundy, Candidate for Canberra Gai Brodtmann, Candidate for Fraser Andrew Leigh and Second Senate Candidate for the ACT David Mathews will face a cold winter Monday morning in Canberra to see what hot air ballooning in Canberra is all about following the announcement of the ACT finalist in Tourism Australia’s There’s nothing like Australia photo contest.

An image of hot air balloons over Canberra Experience #19,902 was the state finalist for the ACT in Tourism Australia’s There’s nothing like Australia photo contest. It was taken by Andre Obradovic, from Victoria.

From 15 April to 12 May 2010 Australians had the chance to upload their There’s nothing like Australia campaign images and stories at www.nothinglikeaustralia.com to share with the rest of the world.

Following the upload of photos the campaign held a week-long public vote, which concluded at midnight on 29 June 2010 and the announcement of the winner – Experience #6363: “There’s nothing like going on the back of a camel at dawn to see the sunrise in the heart of my beloved Australia” (Uluru, NT) was recently showcased on Channel Seven “There’s Nothing Like Australia: Holiday Hot Spots Revealed”.

The winner of this round received an Australian holiday of their choice valued at $25,000 and each of the state finalists in the promotion  won a $5,000 holiday to the state of their entry plus a Google Nexus One phone valued at approximately AU$570 excluding GST.

The campaign website since its launch has attracted more than 250,000 unique visitors in the past two months and demonstrates that the use of digital technology is key for Australia to reach its target travellers in more than 23 markets around the world.

Senator Lundy and the Federal Labor candidate for the ACT commended the winner of the ACT experience and recognised what a unique and important contribution hot air balloons will continue to have for tourism in Canberra.
