Tony Abbott today announced an additional $1.183 billion worth of cuts, which will put local public service jobs at risk and again demonstrates the ideological commitment the Liberal party has to “cutting government jobs” in the same way the former Howard Government did in the first years of that government in 1996 and 1997.
The Liberals will abolish community cabinets, the petrol commissioner and abandon Australia’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council. Mr Abbott also promised to cut the $300 global carbon storage institute.
Mr Abbott argued these cuts are mainly in bureaucracy; however they will affect job security for public servants and is yet another cut for Canberra demonstrating that a Liberal Government can not be trusted with public service jobs.
