The Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Senator Kate Lundy, today encouraged people acrossAustraliato plan and register their event for Harmony Day 2012, on March 21.
Community and sporting organisations, local councils, government agencies, church groups and schools are all encouraged to register their event and take part in the Harmony Day celebrations.
“After registering your event, a range of free products can be ordered to assist with the promotion of the event and showing your support for cultural diversity inAustralia,” Senator Lundy said.
“The Harmony Day website includes a range of ideas to help people support Harmony Day as well as a wide range of educational resources for schools to use.
“I recently had the pleasure of launching the new interactive whiteboard activities page for schools, including the new and challenging game called Multicultural Match- It.
“The children atBarnierPublic SchoolinSydney’s Quakers Hill were absolutely enthralled with the game and incredibly engaged and enthusiastic.
“With the new interactive whiteboard activities, it is fantastic that we can deliver the Harmony Day activities directly into a classroom using current technologies.”
The Parliamentary Secretary also encouraged everyone to take part in Harmony Day through participation in a sporting event.
“Our 2012 Harmony Day theme of Sport – play, engage, inspire, reflects the important role and positive influence that sport has throughout our nation,” said Senator Lundy.
“We know that team sport in particular is an ideal way of teaching people about diversity and the benefits of working or playing together in a team.
“This year, people will again be able to follow us in the lead up to Harmony Day through YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and while people are online, they can visit our website – www.harmony.gov.au and register their event.
“I would encourage all Australians to register an event and join our nation’s greatest celebration of diversity.”
